How to Clean Knit Christmas Ornaments
If you knit or have an affinity for knit Christmas ornaments, than you may be familiar with the problem of how to clean them. Due to the fact that knit Christmas ornaments may use different yarns, and other types of craft materials, the colors often bleed and small details may become ruined if they are washed with a heavy hand. If they were stored improperly, you may discover that white yarn picks up a dirty gray tint due to the accumulation of dust. However, all is not lost. You can successfully clean your knit Christmas ornaments and once again hang them in proud display.
Cleaning Knit Christmas Ornaments By Hand
If you notice a strong discoloration on your knit Christmas ornaments then you will need to choose a detergent that is applicable for the color you are cleaning. For bright colors, use a color safe bleach either premixed with detergent, or you can mix it yourself. And for white yarn, you may use a little bleach or detergent with bleach premixed. Depending on the size of the ornament and the area that you need to clean, choose either a small child’s size soft toothbrush, (if a smaller area needs to be cleaned, you may use a Q-tip) and gently rub the area with the cleanser. By using a small toothbrush or Q-tip, you can prevent the colors from bleeding into each other. After cleaning, you can blot the ornament dry with a soft towel.
